The mantras for japa (for uninitiated) be done only during this navaratris or can it be done daily. Kindly clarify.

I am not an official of this board. But I am still going to say, yes, do japa whenever you desire. This is also a good thing to know and indulge in if you feel like you want to.

Sure, you can do japa anytime of the year, navaratris are set period conducive for the sadhana of a particular form of Devi.
