Lalitā Sahasranāma, which is comprised of the 183 verses (containing 1,000 names), is found in the second part of Brahmāṇḍa Purāṇa and is presented in the form of instructions imparted to the sage Agastya by Hayagrīva.
This hymn was composed by the eight Vāk Devis (Vaśinī, Kameśvarī, Modhinī, Vimalā, Arunā, Jainī, Sarveśvarī and Kaulinī) at the direction of Goddess Lalitā.
A principal text of Śakti worshipers, it describes the Goddess' various attributes. It is used in various modes for the worship of the Divine Mother like parāyaṇa (recitations), arcana, and homa.
