ABOUT AṢṬAMĀTṚKAS
In Devi Mahatmya the infamous battle, from which the 8 Mothers or Aṣṭamātṛkas (Brāhmī, Māheśvarī, Kaumārī, Vaiṣṇāvī, Varahi, Māhendrī, Cāmuṇḍā and Mahālakṣmī) famously emerged victorious, represents the war between the inmost Divine Self and the ego. Victory over ego and destruction of illusion alone is the great battle of every sincere soul in their journey to enlightenment.
Worship of the 8 Mothers can provide both spiritual and material benefits to the devotees. Their names and associations tell us how and why they can be useful to us, to give us the grace of the Divine Mother. Each one represents one of the passions (kāma, krodha, lobha, etc), achieving control of which can can help devotees progress spiritually. Also, each Matṛka oversees a separate dominion (education, business, progeny, etc.) based on which, it can give boons to people and improve their lives.
WAYS OF WORSHIP AṢṬAMĀTṚKAS
