I believe the community deserves to be aware of serious allegations and concerns surrounding Pravin Ranjan, who has been associated with the Rochester temple and has described himself as a spiritual teacher and, more recently, as a Guru.
There is now publicly reported legal action concerning Pravin Ranjan. In April 2025, CityNews Toronto reported that York Regional Police had charged him with seven counts of sexual assault. The police said the allegations involved two complainants and occurred in connection with spiritual-study sessions in Pickering and Markham. These are allegations and charges, and everyone is entitled to due process.
According to accounts that have circulated within the community, Pravin was previously asked to leave the Rochester temple following allegations concerning sexual conduct with female students while representing himself as someone capable of healing them or curing illnesses. I am presenting this as a community allegation, rather than an established fact, and believe it deserves appropriate scrutiny.
There are also continuing concerns about whether claims of spiritual healing, awakening, or special spiritual powers have been used to establish sexual access to women. These are extremely serious matters and should be investigated through appropriate channels.
It is particularly concerning if Pravin is presenting himself as the next Guru in the lineage following Haran Aiya. A spiritual title does not place anyone above accountability, and claims of spiritual authority should never be used to pressure, manipulate, or exploit vulnerable people.
I am also concerned about the apparent lack of a clear public denunciation or disassociation from Pravin by Haran Aiya. If Haran has knowledge of these allegations, the community deserves transparency about his position and whether he continues to recognize or support Pravin.
This is not an attack on Sanatana Dharma. Quite the opposite: spiritual traditions should not be used as a shield for exploitation or abuse. No teacher, Guru, healer, or spiritual leader should be permitted to use claims of spiritual authority to obtain sexual access to students or followers.
Please exercise independent judgment. Do not surrender your ability to question a spiritual teacher simply because others regard him as enlightened or authoritative. If you have concerns about someone's conduct, seek independent advice, preserve relevant evidence, and speak with trusted people outside that person's circle of influence.
Spiritual authority must never replace accountability.
